mammals make music

40 days in, and ought-7 is already looking to be like a good year for music. A deluge of hot new stuff has already come out and I haven't even caught up with the end of oh-6...why don't they have a machine to pump music into my dreams yet? It would be so tight if I was listening to Comets on Fire the next time I thought I was late to work because I couldn't find anything because my house wasn't my house and my hand was 3x its proper size.

Anyway. 1 of those hot new stuffs is the People EP from Animal Collective. The EP lets loose 3 new songs from the Collective (plus a live version of the title track) and sticks, more or less, to the Animal Collective formula which I think looks like this:
The beauty of that formula and the thing that makes me look forward to new music from these guys is that all of their songs including those on the EP demand attention. This is not passive listening stuff. Each piece of these dense songs has a purpose, and that purpose has nothing to do with backing up a lyrical melody, or filling out a 3 chord folk song. This is a perfect opportunity to put on those giant hipster headhpones and really lose yourself in something (I did, like, 4 times yesterday). So check it out, while I try to find a way to make sure that I can listen to this record while I fight off a giant rodent with my lobster claws.

In other Collective news, Panda Bear, will be releasing a solo record called Person Pitch in March. You can get a taste of what is sure to be more great weirdness over at Gorilla vs. Bear.

last night i had a dream that i diagnosed the cleveland browns personnel needs to Lovie Smith (coach of the chicago bears). he was very interested, but had to go because it was half time and there was a speech to deliver in the locker room.

there was no soundtrack, save the snoring of a friend.
