the Heartless Bastards w/ Foma, and Ride the Blinds :: Live @ 12 Galaxies

The Heartless Bastards blew my face off, at 12 galaxies last night. Erika Wennerstrom must have an extra set of vocal chords; one set for power and one set for emotion. The cool part is that she doesn't leave the music behind. Bassist Mike Lamping, drummer Kevin Vaughn and Wennerstrom (somehow she finds enough leftover energy to play the guitar) play songs that refuse to be lost behind Wennerstrom's voice. Songs that open the other 4 cans in that 6-pack of whoop-ass (Sorry for that one). Go see the Heartless Bastards who are still on tour (myspace for dates) and are traveling with Beaten Awake (see yesterday's post) starting 2/2.

Openers included Foma (below) and Ride the Blinds. Ride the Blinds wailed on the blues, but got an automatic DQ because I'm pretty sure they are a cover band (every song ended with "that's a insert blues legend song" although they might also write their own stuff). They were enjoyable though and probably had the best guitarist in the house. Foma is worth checking out and I'll be keeping an eye on them. I'll let the songs on myspace speak for them because I only have, like, 4 ways to say "good. rock. band."
