Beaten Awake
photo: B. FormanBeaten Awake is somewhat of an anachronism. An actual band in a time when everyone is their own project, recruiting indie-cred members just for tours. Oh, they got it...i mean, you want singer songwriters? They have 2. You want multi-instrumentalists? They have 4. They even have a guy who made a pact with the devil to get the guitar equivalent of Emeril's Essence. And they write songs together. As in: with each other in the same room. The results are emotional rock-pop songs that sound whole. Songs with parts that complement each other and support each other instead of simple accents to a single melody.
Beaten Awake is traveling with the Heartless Bastards for a week starting 2/2 and rumors of a bigger spring tour are out there. So, go see them live if they are coming to a town near you or pick up their first release Let's Get Simplified on Fat Possum/Audio Eagle. You'll enjoy it more than the Week in Science.
